Recently crowned under 23 SA National Champ, Marc Pritzen (Office Guru Racing- U23), showed class when he rode away solo in the last 20kms of the Dis- Chem Ride For Sight Classic – claiming maximum points towards the Road Cycling Series. Office Guru Racing have been progressing consistently in the past year and are now proving to be one of the main contending teams on the start line of any race.
The race started out very aggressive with numerous attacks going off the front of the bunch in the first hour – covering 48kms in the first hour of racing. Crosswinds together with the climb out of Heidelberg were always going to play a significant role in the second part of the race. These factors are what usually contribute most in determining who will be in the final selection of riders in the approach to the finish line. This was the point (after the climb) when Pritzen took advantage of his form and put in a big attack, holding off the rest of the peloton which was lead by Team TEG at this point. Team ProTouch joined in on the chase, but it was too late and Pritzen had it in the bag for his team.
In the ladies race, an ecstatic Michelle Benson (Team Cycle Nation powered by Sandton City) claimed her first ever Elite Classic win for her team. Kim Le Court (Demacon Ladies) and Heidi Dalton (Demacon Ladies) rounded off the podium in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
