South African Time Trial Championships 2019 (8th February)

This week is the 2019 SA National Road Cycling Championships. The start list of the Time Trial was released today and we see some big names on the list of starters. The time trial will take place this Friday the 8th of February.

Gauteng will host this years Championships in the City of Tshwane, with the Time Trial taking place at the Rooival Circuit. The Elite Men will take on 2 laps of the circuit and will complete a total distance of 52kms. The start list is as follows:

Darly Impey is the favourite for the day being the National Time Trial Champion for the past 7 years. However, Stefan De Bod is no stranger to riding really fast Time Trials and could possibly be the first person to dethrone Daryl in a very long time. We haven’t seen Louis Meintjes taking part in the National Time Trial Champs in the last couple of years, so it will be great to see how his form is coming along against the likes of Daryl and Stefan.

We look forward to seeing the results of this one!

The Under 23 Men category is always very competitive. Personally, I feel it is disappointing to see them not racing the same distance as the Elite Men. They will only race one lap of the Rooival Circuit, a distance of 26kms. The start list is as follows:

Some names which should be close to the top of the results sheet include Gregory De Vink, Jason Oosthuizen, Louis Visser and Marc Pritzen.

It is very nice to see so many Elite Ladies starting the Time Trial event this year! The start list is as follows:

Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio is the obvious outright favourite for the day, but I’m sure the podium will be closely contested.

The Road Race will take place this Sunday the 10th of February in Tshwane around the union buildings circuit. More information coming soon.
